Abstract

Esophagography is a specialized radiographic examination technique to view the esophagus and pharynx using positive contrast media or negative contrast media (Kendrick, 2018). Dysphagia is defined as difficulty in swallowing solid or liquid food from the mouth. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the procedure of Esophagography Examination with clinical Dysphagia and to find out why only using anteroposterior (AP) and Left Posterior Oblique (LPO) projections in Esophagography examination with clinical Dysphagia at Pertamina Central Hospital Radiology Installation. Research methodology: This type of research uses descriptive qualitative data processing methods carried out through a case study approach using observation methods, interviews with radiographers and radiology doctors, and documentation. Data from observations were processed, analyzed, and presented to make conclusions. Results: The results showed that the esophagography examination procedure with clinical dysphagia at the Radiology Installation of RSPP patient preparation began with 5 hours of fasting. Then the patient fills out an informed consent to agree to the examination, then to remove all metal objects and change clothes with the patient's clothes. In the RSPP Radiology installation using 3 projections, namely plain anteroposterior (AP), post-contrast anteroposterior (AP), and Left Posterior Oblique (LPO) using barium sulfate contrast media in a ratio of 1: 1. The insertion of contrast media is done orally. The reason for using these projections is because both projections can visualize anatomy and abnormalities in the esophagus from proximal to distal.
